House hunting around NIFT

If you are looking for flatmates/accommodation around NIFT (any centre), say so as a comment. Remember to give your contact info, email address will do. If you want to respond to a notice, please check the date of the notice and respond directly. I am mainly talking about NIFT students but designers, other college students can post too.
NIFT has only 1 hostel - a girl’s hostel. I do not advise you to stay there as it is very very far from college; it’s in Vasant Kunj and NIFT is in Hauz Khas. There is no direct public bus that goes to the hostel. I found no ventilation in the hostel when i checked it out.
Places NIFT students stay-
Hauz Khas and Gautam Nagar PGs, apartments.
Niti Bagh and
Most of the students live in Gautam Nagar. Every other house has a NIFTian living in it. However it is not the cleanest of places. It is the cheapest and roomiest. Other places have 3 girls living in one room paying Rs 4000 each. Look hard and find yourself a good deal.
To look for a place,
- Respond to notices about PGs etc on college gate and around at the time of counselling.
- Contact seniors. You’ll find them on orkut. Look for places left by fourth year students. you’ll have to ask a lot of seniors though and might just be lucky to find someone looking for a flatmate.
- Walk around in Gautam Nagar and Hauz Khas responding to the To Let notices.
- Contact Gautam Nagar broker - Rakesh 98 917 875 46

accommodation shouldn’t stand in ur way..cmon! all the guys live somewhere.. thats not a problem. in fact, even the girls should not stay at the hostel coz its so far.
You should come to Delhi and stay at a relative’s/hotel for a week near the college and look for accommodation. the best idea is to team up with a few guys at the time of counseling and look together.
Look in the following neighbourhoods:
hauz khas
gautam nagar (cheapest..all Niftians live here..but not so clean)
green park
shahpur jaat
rooms come from 5000 to 8000 and if u share u can even be paying upto just 2500 rs a month

at some PGs they give food. Some students eat out everyday as well. the college serves dinner - home made style thali at 8 p.m in the canteen daily. This area in Delhi has a solid dabba system for dinner - 4 rotis, vegetable, rice and dal. Purushu..u r going to miss ur idlis! lol. South cafe - dirty useful eating place in gautam nagar amd Maggi at Subhash (sutta point in front of college) are lifelines.
The college canteen is very good for ragging and lunch

well…dat was interesting…can u tell me abt d ragging in nift…plz..! as a to-be-first year student..am nervous abt it! in south they do it jus for fun…they don go 4 serious things and all…hw abt dem in north???
p.s. oye! am not a tamilian…am a telugu guy who settled in chennai…i hate idlis for myself…i lik dosa rather! and am used 2 chapatis and puris almost every day!

ragging is fun.. just introductions and stuff… Nothing serious at all like nudity etc. They will totally challenge your gender ideas though.. cross-dressing etc everything. don’t run from ragging.. oversmart kids are fun, not rude ppl. they really explore the ‘gay’ thing in ragging, just enjoying the squeamishness of ppl who come with regular mindsets. anyway… be a lil bold.. they will never ask you to do anything like slapping or wotevr. chill. hav fun! No need to get heeby-jeebies. take it with a pinch of salt and most importantly, enjoy it yourself.
NIFT has the mildest ragging ever.. its seriously about just getting to know the new ppl who enter college.

Hey we are in a fix
My Sis has a 9 AIR in Btech (Apparel Production) and we are from Vaishali in Ghaziabad .
We were thinking on lines sending her to NIFT Delhi but you know how parents are.Since Delhi doesn’t provide hostel accommodation so we need kind of something concrete where actually can she stay and what about the Hostel arrangements made by the College.
Are they that bad that even a first year can’t stay ?

well, ppl do stay at the hostel but i don’t recommend it because of distance from college
u guys are so close, in ghaziabad, why don’t u come and chk out PGs around NIFT?
let accommodation not be a reason for foregoing NIFT

hi….i really need some advise…i ve got a rank 33…i was wonderin which is a better course..fashion communication or fashion design.i have studied fashion designing(apparel production) for 2 years..
also i want to go to delhi but my parents r not willing to send me bcos delhi is soo unsafe for girls..n then u have to go to the markets n all to buy fabric or something or the other…n i don have any relatives there…pls help !!

delhi may be unsafe but girls do live here. convince ur parents. After 2 years in fashion design you shud be very clear whether you want to do FD or FC. I have written a lot abt choosing between FD and FC in comments on various NIFT related blog-posts, pls have a look. Check the link above

hi pranay, NIFT doesnt get u into bollywood directly. but yeah.. it trains u in design and media and styling, and those skills are needed in bollywood. u can certainly study at nift and aspire for the MOVIES.

This is Priya… i am doing my FD in chennai…if i had visited this site before the counseling i would have been in Delhi right now..though i got in Delhi my parents did not allow me to do my studies there becoz of the accommodation… anyway its over..how about the placement opportunities in NIFT. i am in chennai now as my parents stay here…how are FD students placed? kindly help to know this..
