Portobello’s a kind of Alice-in-Wonderland mushroom. Makes a yum sandwich.
Parfait’s an overpriced yogurt dish with granola and fruit. Very healthy.
Cous-Cous is desert. I think.
Santorini’s a book by Alistair Maclean.
Gnocchi sounds like a purse brand.

Santorini is an island in Greece, actually. Not edible, as far as I know.
Miso is a paste used mostly (as far as I’ve seen) for soup.
Daikon is the Japanese name for plain old radish (mooli)
Foie gras is duck/goose liver made when the bird’s been stuffed to bursting point with food and gotten really fat (v.yum).
Veloute is a sauce.
Brioche is plain old French for bread
Beckty sounds like a mixed-up spelling of plain old betki fish
Carpaccio is raw beef, eaten very thinly sliced.
couscous is a Lebanese rice dish.
coulis is that thin jam/jelly-like layer of red stuff on top of some cheesecakes at the Big Chill
porcini, I think, refers to those mushrooms that are wider on top than normal button mushrooms, and bigger too.
capers are some manner of vegetable, tubers maybe?
And gnocchi is an Italian dish involving dumplings
Parfait is often overpriced, but the ones I’ve had/seen in cookbooks didn’t sound all that healthy (some involved chocolate).
Kumquats are some kind of orange fruit (I only know this because someone in the fifth Harry Potter book turned someone else’s ears into kumquats).
