Getting back home
I could be in a Toronto streetcar right now. And it could be 11 pm or 1 am and I could be getting back home, nearly safe. With one Jamaican in the whole bus, making conversation. And me replying civilly, almost chummily, because here it is different and one begins to believe in the ideal. No Brooklyn alleys, no gang war. And no Delhi roads, Gurgaon cars with tinted windows, halting just ahead. Tubewell songs, Pind stories. Soniyo memories. Whisky tunes.
How to get back home? One constant dilemma in life. Sweet guys drop you back. But then you can go to places only sweet guys go to. When they do.
How to get back home tonight?
(pssst.. Risk it.)
Diagnosis
