Malvika's Ramblings

Holiday

In the ad agency, there was a room. You could go there, plug into the Employee Motivation console and just sit back and relax. And visit mountains you would never have the time to see. You would walk through bustling Bangkok marketplaces. You would just be dusting your house, interacting with cobwebs, lil mites and flea-flo-flums that you might make an ad about, but you never see. You could be in love and curl your toes at tingly sensations. You could have the time to sit while girls buzzed over your manicure, pedicure, hair and eyebrows and hours just passed by.

After 5 minutes of living life, you could step out of the room and get right back to the brief.

Forgot to say Happy Father’s Day?

Today was Happy Father's day. I just got back from work and it is too late to call up Papa :(
So, I’ll write instead. Happy father's day to the best father in the world!!
For dropping us to school when we missed the bus.
For Sunday lunch masti with garden mooolis.
For the few 5 am walks we did.
For mast family holidays to khajuraho, shimla and bangalore.
For tarbooj cutting techniques to avoid seeds.
For telling us that SAHARA flight toffees were our birthday presents!
For dabs of shaving cream foam on our nose-tips.
For the Mr.Rabbit that spied on Jenny at school and reported to you daily.
For buying my top and skirt with me for the dance at the La martiniere boys'.
For a feeling of 'Everything is fine'.
For writing applications for being absent from school.
For coming to school concerts and sports days and listening to those aAle-looiii-yaaa cantatas.
For enormous large-heartedness, (but not for asking kids to pick freely from our toys' chest!)
For helping with my shifting, for dropping Jenny to Hyderabad.
For ice cream trips to Rastogi at night.
For your sense of humour.
For mad-masooli twists.
For teaching pivot and shoot in basketball.
For teaching me smart work over hard work.
For all the missed calls you returned.
For explaining that bathroom doors in our Chandigarh house banged due to powerful exhaust fans .. and all the million nitty-gritties you explained clearly.
For telling the best technique to light all the Diwali diyas in the shortest time.
For sending me to Toronto for a great experience!
For joo-joo ke!For being so chilled out, concerned only about the big things in life.
Muuuuahhhhh papa... Love you a lottttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttt. lot. lot.

Elements of Design. This is a very very important course in which you learn basic design stuff that stands by you forever. It rocks if your batch has great faculty.

Cabbie Part 2

I have been observing people in the compound in front of your office. People there, girls smoking and all. But these people are still okay, I have seen the AMEX office where people sit downstairs and have whisky. But one thing, though girls at your office smoke, I must say no one has a loose character. But at other offices, people do everything, drinking and all.

MJ: But even you had two pegs of whisky before your Himalayan rally.

Oh but that is a different thing.

MJ: Why?

Because men and women are not the same, right? Of course, if you assume that they are, then it is another matter.

MJ: I don’t want to discuss this.

Ok, fine. We’ll change the topic then. You know I really admire the hard work people at your office do. So much work, so much dedication and time. Even the guy at my company, earning 30-40,000 a month works strictly for 8 hours a day. Tell me where on earth do you advertising people get ideas from? How can you think up so many?
You know what, my mom had a rishta for me! Someone from the lane after the one we live at, said we want to marry our girl to your boy. And I was like what? How can they ask for me when they don’t even know me! And without talking, knowing, how can I marry.

MJ: So get to know her and marry.

Like this only? It is not a joke you know.

MJ: So, seriously get to know her and take it forward.

Naahh.. You know I have been very good in life. You know what category drivers are in, right? They are all badmaash. But I have always been good. Ok, so I drink and have non veg; even my mom knows it; but that’s abusing my own body, right? Not hurting anyone else. Like there was a guest I had – Momita. She was carrying a bottle with her. Yes, she was. So we both had some. But that is it. I know my place and I know hers. Nothing went wrong. I have never done harm unto any person, not been with a girl. I have kept myself pure. And I expect an A1 girl for myself. Not someone who just goes with anyone who calls her. Yes I have been curious and explored life, but in some respects I have kept myself steady. If you don't mind but... you know people with our name are like that.

MJ: Our name? You mean M?

Yeah, like Meenakshi. They want to know everything. But they would never do anything wrong. They like to find out about people. Like I am tired but I am still talking. I have discovered a lot about people in my cab – Rohit, Som. I have met you 2 or 3 times and not discovered much; maybe only 10 to 15% so far. I have at least figured out that you are a very good, hard-working girl. You know, I study people; unki gehraiyon tak jaata hoon. Like I draw lots of experiences from old people. Especially successful ones. What they did. How they lived. What decisions they made. How they rose. Their job. Getting married. Family. I cannot respect people who are frogs in a well at all. And people with our name keep thinking about right and wrong. Always. Ok, here we are and here is the slip to sign.
